5 Beard Mistakes to Avoid

If you have decided to grow a beard, then it is indeed a great decision taken by you.  There is no doubt that beards provide a masculine look to a man> However, it has also been observed that many of us commit a lot of blunders while growing our beards. Then we need to rush to a barbershop in Rancho Cucamonga or elsewhere to get the proper shape. In this article, we will talk about the top 5 beard mistakes that you must avoid.

  1. Shaving Extremely High of a Neckline

It is not clear why a few men wish to shave their beards up below their chin. It may so happen that they’ve mistakenly done it or they think it appears smart. Either way, this is a strict no-no. You need to know and then decide where to shave around the neckline. It could be just above Adam’s apple when you are looking straight ahead. It will particularly appear dull when you have a heavy beard on your cheeks and you have shaven your neck. Your beard will seem unfinished, less full, and very strange. If you have committed the blunder of shaving too high, or you cannot grow enough hair underneath your chin, then you must trim your beard on your cheeks to a short length. This will ensure that your neckline will be observed much less.

  1. Trimming Without Care

When you’ve had a lush beard for a while now, and you’re an expert at maintaining and grooming it, then one fine morning you’re in a hurry to go for work, and see yourself in the mirror and realize that you require a small touch up and trim. You may feel like applying a quick trim and be on the way. The next thing you realize that you’ve mistakenly taken out a chunk of beard, you've seen your barber do it and thought, I can manage it. Now you start panicking as you feel like you passed out and someone else pranked on you.

You can’t show up for work in this manner and have to either trim your whole beard back again or opt for a clean shave. Months of hard work could be futile just like that. However, interesting statistics reveal that you’re more likely to crash around your home or suburb as you’ve driven around those streets umpteen times and have become complacent. The same logic is applicable for your beard, you’ve trimmed it a million times and have become complacent and you now trim a bit carelessly. You must always go slow and focus on what you are doing. Nowadays, less is more.  This will establish the difference.

  1. Mutton Chops

When you resemble Alex ‘Star-burns’ Osbourne and enjoy rocking a few mutton chops, you have to re-evaluate your looks. You may contemplate growing mutton chops, as it is an amazingly cool alternative to a mainstream beard. However, for other people, you will seem like someone entangled in a time warp from another dimension. When you’re not an accomplished rock star that bases their look of ‘sticking it to the man,’ just plain and simple, refrain from growing them.

  1. Trimming Your Mustache Too Short

When you cut your mustache short, there is a risk that you’ve put an imaginary sign on yourself saying “beware of me,” by default, amongst other labels such as ‘the creepy uncle’. A short mustache and a long beard aren’t at all a good combination for a smarter look. But there is a difference between a man who deliberately trims his mustache too short and someone who might naturally have a shorter mustache compared to the rest of his beard. The latter will appear natural and if maintained properly, will look fine. However, someone who shaves his mustache and allows the beard to flourish must let the mustache grow back to its usual length so he can again begin befriending others.

  1. Allow it to Grow Wild and Uneven

When you think that you could avail of a long, lumberjack beard by allowing it to outgrow itself without the need to touch it, then it is a myth. Similar to a precious flower garden, you must nurture your beard and prune it from time to time. You must trim back the stray whiskers with a mind of their own and ensure that the beard is properly conditioned. Don’t feel concerned that it would set your growth back. Rather, this will make the beard appear less shabby and make it look denser and it must grow more uniform. A common false notion is that if you trim your beard, it will become thinner.  But it’s just the opposite.  Trimming the messy ends will make it appear thicker. Continue to click it back once in a while, and like a gardener cutting a hedge, you’ll ensure that the hairs will grow out altogether.
